St Regis Singapore is a prestigous hotel that opened recently in the up market Orchard Road/Tanglin area. A wedding banquet there should be a prestigious event. Perhaps a bit of humour may add a some warmth to the occasion. This caricature was ordered for the lucky couples wedding invitation.
Azman and Diana requested to have two caricatures for their wedding reception. One to incorporate their love for jogging at Bukit Timah nature reserves and another fantastic one of them on a flying carpet over Taj Mahal. We incorporated a bit of humour like the exercise book to suggest her profession as teacher and also added a dust-buster in her hands for the latter. What else would a wife do on a flying carpet when the husband is busy flying? Their response:
Thank you for the beautiful caricatures of us. We like them!
We asked why they got two? Two entrance door. We decided that studio photo is boring. Caricature is unique, bring smiles, tells stories and we can put them up in our house and not get bored of them. Azman and Diana
This caricature is a gift is for a staff of Exxon Mobil. They came back to us for more caricatures after a group drawing we did last month. Client requested that we leave a specified amount of space below the drawing for his colleagues to leave their well wishes. The gag was that he always say there is only one control document but actually there is an endless ensuing flow of control documentation. Insider joke, does not matter if you don’t get it, we just do what we are told.
Due to overwhelming response from the public and good media coverage during the launch event, the Singapore Kindness movement engaged Kamal to repeat his live mural caricature drawing performance. This time, it was stretched over two weekends at the Plaza Singapura event hall located at Dhoby Ghaut MRT. It is estimated that there were more than 150 faces and messages on the 16ft x 8ft vinyl sheet after 3 sessions of drawing for 6 hours. Both murals are kept for displays during their road-shows.
